abiroji video (clip) online

You can see a clip of our video, “Ad Jung” at SoundTV. I’m not sure exactly why it’s only a clip, rather than the entire video, but check it out anyway.

Here in Japan, a music video is called a “PV”, which stands for “Promotion Video”. If you browse around the site, you’ll see lots of “PVs” for all kinds of bands in all sorts of genres. One thing that’s always been a little strange to me is the popularity (indeed, even the existence) of the “Visual” genre. That’s right, it’s an entire genre of “visual bands” - very much like what the States had back in the 80s with “glam metal”.

I remember one time I played a show (this was before I was in abiroji, in a hardcore scream-o type band) and all the bands on the bill that night were either metal or hardcore acts. Except for one visual band. These guys were at least two hours backstage fixing their hair and makeup … not that there’s anything wrong with that, it was just the juxtaposition of these no-bullshit heavy acts with these “pretty boys” that made me grin.

Anyway, the “glam” thing is certainly alive and well in Japan.
