Human Stage

We are at Human Stage tonight with Barbell (from mainland), and a few other local bands. A little cool note about the event - I saw it being advertised on some television show this morning - I don’t know the show, because I wasn’t really watching.

Anyway, that was a little cool.

We’ve also got a little surprise for tonight - when we were in Fukuoka I was goofing off and wrote the “Yabai Song”. Yabai means dangerous, and is used in slang a lot in situations like if you see a hot chick, she is yabai or someone is way drunk, they are yabai and so forth. I’m not a linguist, so my explanation isn’t great, but I hope the point gets across.

So, I was talking to Manabu (the drummer) about some crazy songs and mentioned a speedcore song I had heard once that was 1000bpm. If you don’t know music, that’s one thousand beats per minute, which is way beyond the realm of what is humanly possible. To provide a little context, the average bpm for popular music is around 120bpm, and super-fast-speed-metal hovers around 200bpm, and although monster drummers (like Gene Hoglan) can handle songs exceeding 240bpm, that’s crazy awesome fast drumming.

Basically, I was trying to get Manabu to “blast beat” really really fast (we like to goof off and do death metal stuff sometimes). We worked it out where it’s like 2 seconds of really fast blast beats, scream out “Yabai”, repeat twice more, and then say “Arigato!” (Thank you). We’re going to try it out on the crowd tonight, and try to get them to sing along (such as it is) with the song. Hopefully, it will be a really cool and funny different kind of thing - it was real fun at practice, anyway.
