I think with what we got done over the last two nights, we have pretty much wrapped the pre-pro work for that particular song (”Fly”). I’m happy with the way everything turned out, but now that I’ve listened to it in the car, there are a few minor things I’d like to add/change/try.

There was a couple of vocal bits in particular that took quite some time to get right - in one case, mainly looking for the right sound, phrasing, and effect to “fill” in a space that felt a little empty. I’m always a little thoughtful about the detail that goes into recording (and this is just pre-pro), and I always wonder how other bands do it. Sometimes, I just have a hard time picturing guys like the Rolling Stones sitting in a studio for 12+ hours - I wonder if they just “lay the tracks”, and pretty much turn it over to a producer?

We’re “off” tonight, but there’s some kind of practice tommorrow I think … not sure what exactly we are going to be doing though.

I’m going to try to take advantage of the down time and catch some much-needed Zs…
