Abiroji Live Tommorrow

Although I have up a page with the Abiroji Live Schedule, I wanted to give some more details here.
But, I don’t have a lot of details. It’s at Okinawa Kodomonokumi, the Okinawa Children’s zoo - they’ve been having events and whatnots all weekend, for Golden Week, I’m assuming.
I think the thing kicks off at […]

Math and Music

Eric Lippert has a very interesting series of articles dealing with temperment and other related math/music matters:
Desafinado, Part One: Eric Continues His Obsession With The Greeks
Desafinado, Part Two: A Perfect Pythagorean Tuning
Desafinado, Part Three: Too Many Fifths
Desafinado, Part Four: Rolling Your Own WAV Files
Desafinado, Part Five: Getting Down Without Hitting The Bottom

Japanese Train Time

It seems that all that’s been on the Japanese news here for the last three days is coverage of the train wreck in Osaka. Now, there are a few articles coming out stating that the Japanese obssession with precision and being on time are at least partially responsible for the accident.
I don’t know how […]

Spam Karma 2, Dreamhost and cURL

This blog is protected by the most excellent Spam Karma plugin and is hosted on the most excellent host, Dreamhost.
There’s one small problem with this set-up, though. Spam Karma uses the allow_url_fopen() functionality of PHP, which Dreamhost has disabled for security reasons.
What follows is a replacement function that rewrites one function using […]

amazon.com free downloads

amazon.com has a lot of free music downloads , including a nice summary of the top downloads.
Someone has created an RSS feed for them.
If you use Firefox, (and you should), there is also a Greasemonkey script available. (Greasemonkey available here.)
I think I first heard about this from Boing Boing.

More site work…

I found a nice WordPress template from this site. So, I’m starting to try to get a nice look going on. I’ve got a couple of ideas/problems for the site, so I’ll be diddling with it over the next few days.

Working on the site a little

I’m working on the site just a bit, trying to clean it up and move stuff around and what not.
I think I’m going to try to use WordPress as a basic CMS, and get away from using Front Page. I don’t want anything to break, so I’m taking my time. (I’m lazy and […]

I’m back

I’m back from a quick trip to Seoul, Korea. You want to know what was pretty cool about Seoul? I fired up my laptop in my hotel room on the 15th floor, and there were at least 6 open wireless networks. I’ve read that Seoul is the most wired city on earth, and […]

What Kind of (American) English Do You Speak?

Your Linguistic Profile:

65% General American English

30% Dixie

5% Upper Midwestern

0% Midwestern

0% Yankee

I can only guess that 30% is the highest you can score in the “Dixie” category.

Napskint

Napskint was also handing out CDs after the Bat Cave show. This CD sampler has got two songs on it, “Jump Up” and “Proof of Live”.
I’ve listened to it a couple of times, I think “Jump Up” has a little System of a Down flavor to it, and I think it’s the better of […]

Metal Safari

Metal Safari was handing out a one-song demo, “Return to My Blood” outside after the Bat Cave show. Since one of the members threw up the devil horns and said “Metal!” to me - I figured I’d check it out.
I’m glad I did, because I really like this song. It’s along the lines […]

Propagandiz

Propagandiz is the new project from former Bat Cave members: Jibi (vocals), Wu-Chy (bass), Yu-Suke (drums), and KZ (DJ/sampling/programming).
The guys were passing out the CD at the door inside a little envelope with a lyrics sheet. There are two songs on the CD:

Tha Flag
Discount Dis

Jibi had said he wanted to do something different, and […]

Bat Cave Last Live

I’m back from Tokyo, and Bat Cave’s last show was awesome! Sad, because it’s the last Bat Cave show - but it was great. The club was packed, lots of people up front moshing and having a good time, great partying, and so forth. All the bands were very good, but Spanam […]

Going to Tokyo…

I’m off to Tokyo today to see Bat Cave’s last live. It’s at Club Quattro in Shibuya - never been there before. Last time I was in Tokyo was my first live show with Zero Sen at the Loft in Shinjuku.
I’m still a little groggy from last night - which was the first […]

Pani Night 2005

Our wood bass player Hideki is putting on an event: Pani Night 2005.

I don’t know many of the details, but here’s what I gather from the flyers (from cool dude Wataru from Ryukyu Soul!):
Location: Junk Takasago (Naha, Okinawa - natch)
When: April 16th, 2005 - Doors open 5:30 p.m.
Tickets: 2000 yen in advance, 2500 at the […]

Total Steel Okinawa 2004

That’s the name of the compilation CD that our song “Air Raid” is on. We got a preview copy - no artwork - today. 12 songs from 12 different Okinawa bands, all of which are one flavor of metal/heavy or another. I hope they bump it up to “Total Steel Okinawa 2005″, […]

WordPress Games Google

The software that I use to blog with is WordPress - a very popular tool. It has become known that the founder/lead developer has used the official WordPress site to “game” Google search results:
Wordpress Banned by Google for Spamming
Matt, WordPress, and Search Engine Gaming
Wordpress Website’s Search Engine Spam
Spam, Matt, Wordpress.org — and I […]
