King Gorilla pre-pro part one done
We finished the first part of pre-pro on “King Gorilla” last night (around 2:30!).
Here’s what has happened so far with the song: Mamaru brought it in on a cassette tape (he’s big on cassette tapes for some reason) to the “listening sesssion” where we were going through rough recordings of songs to decide which to put on the CD. Everyone really dug the song, because it’s cool.
For some reason, we started working on “Alien” first, but then decided to stop on that one and work on “King Gorilla”. I don’t know why, but that’s what we did. Mamaru taught the basic parts of the song to everyone and then we started playing with the riffs and arrangement. We spent a couple of practices going through various arrangement ideas.
Last night, when I got to practice there had been one more small arrangement tweak, and once all that was sorted out, we fired up the laptop for the rough recording. This (extremely rough) recording will serve as a sort of guide track - we take it to the real studio tonight and will re-record the parts (that equipment is superior to my do-shitty laptop, obviously). It also is a decent enough recording for people to listen to for ideas, especially for Yasu to work on vocals, for example. (We also don’t always go straight from our pre-pro to the studio, sometimes there is a week or more.)
That’s where we are at with the song - personally I’ll be listening to the little guitar parts that I do and trying to think of better ideas, especially for the “doo-da-lee-doo” part.
