Japanese Chart Up!

I put up a new Japanese chart. It has the katakana and the hiragana (which I also have as seperate files: katakana / hiragana). The cool thing is how it is laid out illustrates basic Japanese verb conjugation.
It’s sized for my laptop wallpaper, but I did up the chart in Illustrator, so […]

Yakuza and politics

The “Underworld” Goes Underground is a brief, but interesting article that gives a little history of the yakuza, and some of the interaction with Japanese politics. [VIA]
If you are interesting in things yakuza, I can recommend Confessions of a Yakuza: A Life in Japan’s Underworld, an entertaining and insightful book into actual yakuza life.

No Time … No Time

Just a quick post since I’ve been really neglecting this blog lately. My excuse: my work is very busy, I’m taking 3 classes, and the band is in pre-pro.
I’m actually typing this up while I’m waiting on the rest of the guys to show up for some pre-pro recording.
Not only that, but we […]

One week into JAPN 114

Well, I’m a good solid week into JAPN 114, and things are rolling right along. This looks to be quite a step up in difficulty from JAPN 111 and 112, but I’m trying to compensate for that by hitting the books a little harder. The pace of the class is a little slower, while being […]

WinXP Command Line Reference

There’s probably some stuff in the WinXP Command Line Reference that’s new to you - there was to me.
I found this after reading a good post on a couple of the commands from Scott Hanselman’s Blog.

Referrer Spam

Spam is a problem, and there’s all kinds of it, but I’m mostly concerned with 3 kinds: email spam, comment spam, referrer spam.
Email spam is solved, thanks to SpamBayes.
Comment spam is close to solved, thanks to SpamKarma.
Which leaves us with referrer spam. I’ve started trying to implement the methods covered by Caveat Lector’s Spam […]

Lindsay Lohan Future Classics

I was in the store and saw a Lindsay Lohan CD in the checkout line. There was a sticker that said something like ” Contains the hit soung Whatever and the Future Classics Blah Music, Bubblegum Love, and Generic Rebellion”
Future Classics?

Zero Sen Pre-Pro V

We just got done with some more pre-pro. Unfortunately, the studio lost the tracks to one of our songs, and we had to re-do it. It took about 3 1/2 hours to re-record the parts. This is with the fake MIDI drums and no vocals, and one more guitar track needs to […]

Fujiyama bouncer arrested

Okinawa City bar bouncer arrested in man’s fatal fall. Terrible.

Super Mario Sheet Music

From the blindfolded pianist: Super Mario Sheet Music! [VIA]
This is something that’s been picking up lately for guitarists as well. I went to a show at Human Stage a couple of months ago, and one guitar player from one of the mainland bands played some Super Mario theme music for a while. (I […]

Sick of this crap

Dr. Dave, author of Spam Karma, which I use on this blog is sick of this crap. “This crap” being, ungrateful assholes who disparage his efforts.
Well, I want to tell a different side of it. I installed Spam Karma after trying several other noble offerings. It worked like a champ, and I […]

Zero Sen Live at Human Stage

Zero Sen is live this Sunday (16th) at Human Stage. I don’t have the details, but I’ll try to get them and put them up here.

Radio: Need us, please.

Industry Launches Pro-Radio Ad Campaign . A laughable piece from Billboard Radio Monitor on the new advertising campaign that promotes “radio as the source for new and compelling music.”
Compelling? As in compelling me to turn the damn thing off and throw in a CD because you keep playing the same songs over and […]

The People Who Owned the Bible

The People Who Owned the Bible is a great little send-up of the modern copyright situation. [VIA]
The attack by media conglomerates and other corporations on creative freedom wrapped in the deceptive language of “intellectual property rights” and “digital rights management” and other such nonsense is a problem that doesn’t get the smallest percentage of […]

Shaun of the Dead

Just got done watching Shaun of the Dead, and it rocks!
Very funny and some nice original takes on the classic zombie story. It’s great how long Shaun goes before realizing what is happening, and how well he handles it once he does realize there are zombies about. I loved the “White Lines” and other Electro […]

Big Daddy PDF

A $1500.00 1-page downloadable PDF. Who would buy this? [VIA]
If you answered, “Yes”, dear god please use my refer link!
Actually, the comments are worth reading.

Microsoft vs. itself (EULA)

A while back, I made mention of spyware producer Claria’s EULA, and how it attempts to dictate that the user can only remove Claira spyware by Claira-approved means.
Although this is absurd, it hasn’t stopped other spyware producers from adopting similar language in thier EULAs.
Now, Microsoft has entered the spyware-removal market, and offers a tool to […]

New Hougen up!

We had a little get-together last night for Yasu’s birthday, so I heard some new hougen. I put the ones I wrote down up on the Okinawa Hougen page.

My wife’s blog

I got TamiTam to try out a blog. I don’t know what it’s about, or if she’ll stick with it, but it’s out there.
It’s noteable that WordPress is so well-designed that I can install it without being able to read what is happening. The guys who did WordPress and the WordPress ME conversion are great.

Ashlee Simpson Booed

Looks like everyone’s favorite lip sync “artist” had another minor performance problem, one which led to her being booed by 70,000 or so pissed off people.
Torrent of video available.
Is it possible to reach a point where pop music is too plastic to be acceptable? One would like to think there is some minimum of […]
