Scoble and MSN Search

Scoble talks about MSN’s results ranking feature, and Adam Carr quite rightly points out that it is a piece of crud.

However, what I haven’t seen mentioned yet is that this is just a brain-dead attempt to copy Google Personalized Search, right down to the slider interface. The difference, of course, is that Google’s implementation is useful and original - even though it is still in beta (and has been for a long time - I don’t remember when I first ran across Personalized Search, but it’s been at least 3 months).

Scoble’s just about reached the point where he’s only good for picking up on what news is coming out of Microsoft. He needs to avoid that, because someone already does a better job of that.

Again, like the thing with Paul Thurott, I’m not going to point out everything along these lines with Scoble - it’s not interesting. This is just one thing that jumped out because I remember seeing Google Personalized Search and thinking what a super-great idea it was, and then much later seeing MSN Search and thinking what a super-not-great rip off it was.
