MS, IE, and less-than-stellar journalism II
In an earlier entry, I talked about some poor reporting on Firefox/IE. Well, the follow up isn’t much better.
In the article The Great Internet Explorer Debate Continues, the author, Mr. Paul Thurott, passes along this gem:
Reader Scott Barker also brought up an excellent point. “Unlike IE, which can be automatically ‘patched’ through Windows Update, Firefox requires a manual reinstall when updates or patches are released,” he wrote. “
Of course, this is incorrect. Firefox does not require a manual reinstall when updated or patched. It is true that some earlier beta versions did, but this is the nature of beta software. The official release has never required an reinstall. (In fact, based on my experience, it has never required me to restart my machine, unlike many IE updates.)
Just another example of some shoddy “journalism”. Have the personal and professional pride to at least attempt to fact-check your assertions. I won’t be bothering with this particular author again here, I’m not interested in pointed out every error - just in making an overall point that just because the source is a “professional” doesn’t mean anything regarding its accuracy.
