This news is so freaking big I don’t even know what to think yet.

Variety reports that Sam and Bruce both (along with orginial partner Rob Tapert) are on board for an Evil Dead remake. (Bloody Disgusting has the meat of the article without the registration needed by Variety; and Slashdot is covering it as well.)

Why a remake of Evil Dead? Wasn’t that pretty much what Evil Dead 2 was? I want brand-new Evil Dead, picking up from the orginal ending of Army of Darkness. Hell, even picking up from the theatrical ending of AoD - I’ll take it.

Perhaps the greatest part of this is that the “Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash” abortion is avoided (or at the very least postponed). The worrying part is that Raimi is not planning on directing! That’s the sort of thing that could ruin this project.

Oh, how the gods taunt us! New Evil Dead? Yes! But…a remake. Is Bruce Ash? Yes! But…Sam’s not directing. Oh!
